If I hadn't hired Greg, I think I would still be spiraling in financial worries and doing really big pushes 2 times a year to try to create new clients. I think I would probably be reaching a level of burnout and potentially trying to find an alternative for this moment in my life.
About Lindsay
I am a leadership coach, and I primarily work with women who've created a lot of success in their life and have lost themselves a bit through the process.
The Problem
I've been coaching for about 12 years and have ridden the roller coaster of seasonal chunks of income and new clients, and I just wasn't really happy to be on that ride anymore. I have a young toddler and I was wanting some more stability and security within my client creation systems and within my business as a whole.
The Solution
So the biggest thing that I took away from working with Greg was to be consistent and to really create clear and simple plans that I can actually complete with my current reality of my life, and to be consistent with those actions.
I tend to come up with a lot of different ideas, and so I think that ability to really hone in and be like, “What's the best path forward? And here are the 4 things that we are going to focus on, and here's the 4 actions that you're going to put into place in order to keep a consistent stream,” was extremely beneficial and helpful for me.
Greg was like, “Let's just focus on one thing. Just focus on 1-on-1 clients versus leading retreats and leading different workshops and programs.”
He really worked with how I create clients and create leads instead of telling me, “This is the way that you should market.” He has a masterful power of being like, “What works for you, and how can we really harness what works for you instead of you trying to be someone else?”
I am a connector, and so I really leaned into that relational connecting and owning that, and creating consistent actions for consistent outcomes.
I've worked with a lot of different coaches. He really has such a strategic view of my business. And then he also had a lot of compassion.
The Result
The internal shifts really decreased my anxiety around where the next client was going to come from. How was I going to create it? When was I going to get that income stream again?
It created a lot of stability and ease for me.
My corporate client the last few years was a solid percentage of my income, and through working with Greg, I was able to create clear systems and strategies that helped me create that income through 1-on-1 clients versus corporate work with a team that maybe wasn't the best fit for me.
Who Should Work With Greg?
I think you'd be a good fit to work with Greg if you have tried a lot of other options and they don't feel authentic to you. Greg can really help you figure out what's going to work for you and for your business, whether you're a coach, consultant, or small business owner.
I followed him for years through his blog and YouTube channel. When I finally reached out to have a strategy call, it was really insightful to have that space and time with him.
I highly encourage it. If you're thinking about it, you might as well book a call with him.
The problem with 99% of marketing advice
Most marketing advice is written for a version of you that does not exist.
Someone with no kids, no hobbies, and a passion for split-testing ad copy.
You're probably not that person.
Neither was my client Lindsay.
Lindsay Gurley is a leadership coach for high-achieving women. She's been coaching for 12 years, building her business primarily on referrals.
When Lindsay came to me, she was riding seasonal swings of income.
She'd do two big pushes per year to sign clients. Then she’d coach until cash got tight again.
It worked, until she had a kid. That’s when she came to me wanting more predictability from her business.
Here's what we did together.
Step 1: focus on one offer
Lindsay had a group program, in-person retreats, and a 1-1 coaching program (which she loved).
She also had a big corporate client that made up half of her income (which she didn’t love).
Trying to do it all wasn't working.
It was too hard to nail the messaging, marketing, and delivery for everything at the same time.
So we focused on getting year-long, 1-1 clients.
Everything else went on the shelf temporarily.
Step 2: play to your strengths
Lindsay is what I call a Connector.
She gets clients from meeting new people, nurturing those relationships, and then inviting them to experience her coaching.
Before working with me, she hired a coach who taught a totally different strategy: ads, automated webinars, and aggressive sales techniques.
It low-key traumatized her. Even the word “niche” made her anxious.
So I said, “Look, you have something that works. Let’s figure out what makes it work and do more of that.”
For Lindsay, that meant leaning into relational marketing.
Step 3: small, weekly actions
Lindsay had 20 focused hours a week to work.
The rest of the time, she needed to be with her toddler.
So we picked a handful of actions she could repeat even on her busiest weeks.
In the past, she had relied on adrenaline and financial pressure to take action.
But with a clear plan that played to her strengths, she could check things off each week and then go live her life.
In Lindsay’s words:
“It created a lot of stability and ease for me.”
Her results after 6 months
Over the 6 months we worked together, Lindsay wrapped things up with her corporate client and replaced that income with 1-1 coaching clients.
But the bigger shift was internal.
She stopped wondering where her next client would come from.
She stopped relying on two big, exhausting pushes every year.
And she built a business that fit the life she wanted - as a coach and a mom.
